I never got to experience any of it, not even the tabletop game until much later. If you like that kind of stuff you could do a lot worse. The novel starts off a little slow and spends a bit too much time setting up characters that won’t be seen or referenced for the rest of the novel, but once it gets going it doesn’t stop. Good fluff, average sci fi A good book if you a re fan of the Battletech universe.

What dooms the book is that the characters are drawn so shallowly that to call them 1 dimensional might do them too much credit. The big problem is the ending. I heard about this book on a podcast in which the hosts are Battletech players.
In short if you aren’t a battletech nerd you probably won’t be rit into this. The first Battletech novel I’ve read and a great entry into the world. As a straight piece of military sci fi this book does ok, but it’s the Battlemech’s themselves that are the stars, more so than the characters – had to give 4 stars just for nostalgia value. Decent read, but I could definitely rlft this was written 25 years ago, much earlier in Keith’s career.

If I can’t stand it also, I guess Battletech is dead to me. Great story, plenty of action. A decently written tie-in novel that scratches one’s itch for meaty combat between giant robots.

But I am, so I’ll probably finish out the series. The story itself is rather cliche, but it provides a nice launch point for a new universe. Lovely action, drama, and explosive action. Strap in, suspend disbelief, have fun! Eigentlich viel besser als durch das alberne Entscheidujg und die mangahaften Zeichnungen zu erwarten war.
It was written in the late 80’s and you can tell. The characters are generic hero types, bent on revenge, not much really of interest going on with them. Published September entscheiduhg by Roc first published Said power plays are, unfortunately, rather uninteresting and confusing while still ostensibly relevant, and the revenge story is bog-standard. No knowledge of the game is required.

The next in chronological order trilogy is by Michael Stackpole, so that’ll be my do or die series. The book is great as entsfheidung ever was, with a heart-thumping plot, compelling characters integral to the Battletech universe, and an incredibly satisfying conclusion. We are only briefly introduced to the politics of the Successor States in this book, but I can sense that it will provide a very fertile atmosphere for more stories in the future.
They are garrisoned on the world of Trellwan a world of extremes where the year is 45 standard days long, and the day I first read the Battletech series around 20 years ago when I was playing the boardgame that the series is based upon.

The prose repeats itself a lot, describing thing over and over again using the As a fan of the setting, I’ve got entsfheidung say I enjoyed the book. I devoured this book back inand I can only call it a bit painful to read today. While this is much more grounded in real physics then most anime I’ve seen, it might provide an interesting avenue for those fans as well.

I would also say, if someone at Catalyst Game Labs is listening, is that they need a good copy editor. A Battlemech pilot’s father is killed not a spoiler, because the book practically begins with the eventand he must take revenge while engaging in neo-feudal power plays typical of the Battletech universe. Decision at Thunder Rift takes place in the Battletech game universe, where soldiers fight wars in giant robots called Mechs.
I actually would like to hear more about the protagonists and if they appear in later books. The novel The beginning of the Gray Death Legion is one of the first novels to expand on the Battletech role playing game. Now, entschejdung the first Battletech novel, it feels nostalgic. The battles are small and personal.
